What Trainings Do I Actually Need?
Trauma certifications, specialized trainings, and free CEUs - therapist fresh out of grad school are bombarded with ads galore that convince them that they need to add these tools to their tool kit.
Perhaps you are a freshly minted therapist are are falling prey to these ads and wondering if a training would give you a confidence boost in your work. Or, maybe you are a seasoned therapist but wanting to change up the work that you are doing. Here are some questions to ask yourself before hitting purchase on that new training:
1) Do you feel confident in your therapy work? If no, where do you want to grow?
2) Will taking this training actually result in either: better services for your clients or more income for you?
3) Do you have the time and finances to comfortably do this training right now?
4) What are you telling yourself about the type of therapist you will be after taking this training?
Having a clear goal for choosing your trainings helps you determine which ones will actually benefit you rather than just distract you from the good work that you are doing! Remember, your therapy trainings are not what make you a good therapist - You are what makes you a good therapist!
